New Zealand - anyone else?

She is lovely! We had her inside snuggled in a blankie having cuddles earlier! So cute:) I'm sure you will get at least one out of the 12!

I just want your mottle... I thought if I get some of my own one might be like her!!!

Hi all,

Lovely to hear from other people from chch. I live in rangiora but it is easier to say chch as most people know where that is.

I have lots of chickens but only got my 1st chickens just over a year ago - i just feel in love with them so fast.
I have 21 Brown Shavers at my parents farm and at my place i have 7 brown shavers, 3 cross breds, 3 silkes, 3 orpingtons, 2 sussex, 6 barred rock, 1 aracana and 1 frizzle :) lol

I have 2 kids as well - 5 and 3 years old and they love them they love to hug the baby chicks :)

Hope you are all well

I'm in Clarkville near Kaiapoi, so I say Christchurch too! I've got a right muddle of chooks after taking over my mums flock and going hatch crazy! Hatched 14 faverolles yesterday, have bantams hatching on Saturday then an incubator full and broody in 2 weeks and set 12 Pekins under a silkie yesterday!!! I've gone mad!!!

you sound like me :) i just keep on getting broody hens so i keep on puting eggs under them. My husband goes "more baby chicks" lol little does he know i chose the hens for them to be broody lol :)

I'm rather addicted to broody hens too! Though my first few were useless I seem to be getting better mothers now! I am picking up a rooster either today or tomorrow so my next batch of chicks will be from my own eggs! (I will probably be selling the chicks though as otherwise I will have far too many chickens, not of the breeds I want to concerntrate on!)

It's so exciting hatching!!!

But if I had more space I would be exactly the same

It was so weird going into the coop yesterday without a broody hen hissing at me!! I bet she's loving sitting on all those eggs:)

Daisy my black silkie is loving being a mum for the second time now..such a good wee mummy! The 4 little chicks are so cute! Next time I get eggs I'm so doing a bigger amount as I thought 6 was about a wee silkies limit! But after doing it a few times now there are always a few that don't end up being fertile out of the lot..then you always get a roo or two..so I only really end up with one or two girl chicks in the end!!

Esme my white silkie pecked at one of her bigger chicks yesterday! I think she is over them now!! lol Funny how they loose interest at around 6wks and just leave them to it!

I think the little mottle girl that I got has mites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had her inside snuggle up with me (as I think she still wants a mummy hen) and I had a few little things crawl over my hand!!!Now I'm so worried they are going spread through to my other girls! So I put her in a hutch by herself last night...and will see what I can do today!!eeek!

I think if you got some powder you could sort her out pretty quickly! I can't wait to have a little pekin chick of my own to raise!!! My others hatched today also nearly 36 hours early! 2 frizzles, a silver spangled hamburg and 2 silver sebrights (with slightly wibbly legs but should come right in a day or two according to Ann). So the Fav's and silkie mums have gone out to the 'pen' area in the corner of the big chickens and 14 bantam 'beady eye' has gone into the hutch with her special needs chicks.

Also picked up a spash orpington rooster today, so will see what his chicks with my hens make (when the incubator is free!)

So no chicks hatching for another 2 weeks! Almost a bit of a bleh quite time... Though I do get to play with lots of babies now!!!

She was just so lovely but definately not healthy like my others her age..

Picked up my spangle today and she is a lovely wee thing that is happily picked up..I bought her to be friends with another one that is all alone now since her friend ended up a roo..BUT no it can't be that easy as she doesn't want to be friends with the spangle and just wants to attack her!

Might have to go back and get her a sibling as I feel a bit sorry for her!

What a day!

Sounds so exciting all these new chicks:)

Nicola I go and see Ann in spencerville too
