And for chicken breeds, I know my opinion is one of many, but I do think that the Speckled Sussex is a great breed for children and families. They are docile, friendly, and great layers. It is the same with the Orpington and Easter Egger, which are both among the many friendly breeds that families enjoy. I suggest the Speckled Sussex on top of both those and others, for mainly the reason that they are friendly and calm like the Silkie (which you say you like) and make fantastic starters for any new chicken owner. My Speckled Sussex loves people, and was one of my very first chickens. Of course, listen to other spokes suggestions, as you may find other breeds you like!

Thank you Ill take a look at the sussex. Over by me we have roadside eggs for sale if I have too many I could sell them at work easily. Not in it for the money in this for my daughter to learn and enjoy I appreciate your input thank you...I was thinking of adding a Duck.
