New....

Just putting another bookend on this thread. So, happy sad day this last Tuesday. I lost the second to last of my original crew. Not sure the issue, but she hasn't been right for a couple of years. We named her Coffee...but her nickname was poopy butt. She started laying goofy eggs (very odd shape) and then went through a period of laying soft and eggs without shells for a while - then quit laying all together. I don't think she has laid an egg in over a year. She has been a pet. We tried supplements, and more - but nothing helped. She was a good hen. People friendly. I noticed she was showing signs on Sunday and I believed her time was coming soon. She passed in the coop around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon (I have cameras set up and can view anytime).

The happy part, we got two new baby girls the same day just by freak timing that came from the high school Ag department. The new ones are a Leghorn and an Easter Egg layer (Can't remember the breed name at the moment). They are a week old.

So, while we said good bye to Coffee...we welcomed Amelia and Cadbury.

Sorry to hear you lost Coffee. It sounds likely that she died from reproductive system cancer.
Congratulations on the new littles! The one that lays colored eggs may be an Ameraucana or an Easter Egger depending on where the eggs came from.
