Hi Spaceranger! Welcome to BackYardChickens. We love having new members and hope that you will jump right in and make yourself at home.

Are your Pekins the breed of bantam chickens that are called Cochins in the U.S. or are they Pekin ducks?

As you can see by my avatar, I used to have frizzled Cochins/Pekins for show, but Ive also raised Pekin ducks for fun. Love them all. Araucana, too.

Hi My pekins are what the U.S would call Cochins

I have 6 being mothered by two of my old girls and 1 in a brooder indoors as the mums didn't take to him/her at all

Awwwww, poor wee thing. When we had a single chick in a brooder we put a mirror in with him and it seemed to comfort him..... meaning he didnt peep his little head off all night. LOL He just cuddled up to the mirror. Then we put a toy stuffed parrot in with him. Im not sure whether he saw it as another chick or not. He mostly sat on the stuffed bird's head like a perch. He did grow up to be a rather strange bird.
