Hi all!
My name is Kim and I'm getting my first-ever batch of chicks in two weeks! Only 15 more sleeps until they arrive!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Totally new to chickens but have been reading (and dreaming) about them for a few years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
10 are on order. I've heard they add a few extra just ... well ... in case ... you know ...
(3) What breeds do you have?
Lavender Orpington, Black/Blue Splash Orpington, Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, Jersey Giant, Creme Legbar, Ausrta White, Easter Egger, Olive Egger, Rhode Island Red
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Will help with bug control and (hopefully) help greet our customers when they visit our apple orchard
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a hobby potter - wheel and hand-built pottery. My husband and I also have an apple orchard (200 trees) and have honey bees. We are also expanding our gardens to be able to sell fresh produce.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I work - FT- for a major hotel chain (in the corporate office). Children are grown. We also have a doggie and a cattie.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Reading lots of items online and BackYard Chickens always seems to come up!
