Thank you everyone. It's funny how quickly you get attached to animals. I cried like baby when I found her. I'd been nursing her all day long. Left her in a nesting box while I ate supper about 10 - 15 minutes. When I went to check on her she had just passed as she was still warm. I bawled like a baby. I still have 10 girls, 4 of which are laying now.
What is a necropsy???
Okay so I bought a bag of Diatomaceous Earth but there are not directions on how to use it. I don't want my girls getting sick and dying any more. So I hear that DE, ACV, Molasses, Sardines, Tuna and Cat Food are good for chickens, is this true?
I think we are going to get 5 brown chickens (I don't know the breed yet just that they are laying hens, dual purpose) and 2 roosters I think one is a Banty and the other is a Silkie. What suggestions do you have for breeds that can survive extremely cold winters. I live in Alberta Canada and very close to the Rocky Mountains and would appreciate your opinions on which is the best breed to add to my flock.
