Hello all! I've held off on my introduction and read many of your posts, y'all are an awesome bunch of people . I'm completely new to raising chickens. We have our first group of fine ladies growing in a 50 gallon Rubbermaid roller tote. We started with 13 (only bought 12) we now only have 12 left. Rhode Island reds from TSC. Wow !!! They grow fast . This weekends project is a new brooder box. It will be 6 feet long, 3 feet wide and I guess 8 feet high, as the girls are already practicing their flight skills. Again thank you all for the great information tips and advice. As we launch into our egg-cellent journey in chicken ranching

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new Rhode Island Red babies, sorry about the one you lost. Good luck with the big brooder box build this weekend, they sure do grow fast don't they, you'll have eggs before you know it.

Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! Glad to have you here!

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, they grow fast and by one week old, they can hop and fly pretty far!

Good luck with your new poultry adventure and if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Welcome! I have found great support here as a new member within the last few months. I also found that they quickly grow out of their original accommodations. My birds are now about 5 1/2 weeks old and out in their coop! Private message me or post on the Raising Chicks forums if you have any questions. I am frequently gathering info. on the Raising chicks board and Coop designs boards and I guess will soon move into the other birds as my girls and their needs change. Great forums here!

Our brand new brooder box completed! I'm quite happy with how it came out, it was a great family project, and all 12 of the girls have settled in for the night. I think they approve also.
