newbie cleaning question

Can I ask you all a quick cleaning question. I am also a bit of a newbie. My run is quite large so can't be moved. The floor is dirt but we have had a lot of rain and the half that isn't covered is very wet. Also it's hard to scrape clean. Is there an easier way or can I put some bark chipping down? I wOndered if this would be easier to scrap up? Is it harm full?

Of course you can! We like questions AND answers. Unfortunately, wet is not a big problem here in Central Texas, so I have no answer for you, but I'm sure someone here does.

I'd put down a bunch of sand, four inches deep or more. You can cover the entire run in it. You may have to drive in some boards to help it stay. But then you can just rake it clean periodically, and it won't get muddy. The chickens will enjoy scratching in it.

I fill my chicken run with about 6 inches of hay. It cuts down on mud and gives us good fertilizer. I live in Western Washington so i get a lot of rain too. works
