Hello all,
My fiancee and I are new to BackYard Chickens. Thanks for having us.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Tim has had chickens for years. I started helping with his when we started dating. Now we share the responsibility together.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 80. Eleven hens are about 11-12 months old and laying. Not sure of the breed, but they are huge and white (got them grown locally). The rest we got in July this year.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have a few of a lot of various breeds including Americauna, New Hampshire, Barred Rock, RIR, Faverolles, Cochin, Turkens (bare neck), Black Star, Cuckoo Marans, Broilers, Leghorn, Australorp, Silver laced wyandotte, Red Star, and Delaware.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Searching for info on different breeds.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Traveling, cooking, reading, working on things around the house.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a teacher and have been for 22 years. Tim is a millwright and has been for 15 years. We have grown children who live elsewhere (mostly). Besides the chickens we have a couple of cats and a dog. We are both in our 40's, and the chickens are something we enjoy taking care of together. They are pets more than anything, and we spend a lot of time giving them treats (meal worms) and teaching them to eat out of our hands.
Looking forward to membership.
Thanks,
Karen & Tim
