I am really excited to have joined the flock! Like the post title says, I am new to chickens, and I live in northern california. Out of an original 9 eggs total, I incubated and hatched out five silkies almost 3 weeks ago. The whole process has been a lot of fun with a great deal of on the job learning happening quickly, as it were. I have thought about keeping chickens for many years, and now that I'm 45, I figure it should be happening sooner rather than later. I'm an adult, gosh darn it! I should be able to do the things that I want, that make me happy, within reason. And chickens are, in my opinion, very reasonable.
I look forward to reading more throughout this group, and hopefully getting to know different people who are also new to keeping chickens.
This is my little flock. At the time of the picture, they were 3 weeks old. They are from two different silkie breeders, and I love getting to see what their individual personalities are developing into. I didn't know just how fun, and funny, silkie chickens really are.
