(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
(3) What breeds do you have?

I am new to chickens and actually haven't gotten mine yet. We have ordered with a friend from Murray McMurray and are expecting our chicken around June 26th. We are starting with 5 Black Austrlops, 5 Silver-laced Wyndottes, 5 Aracanus/Americanas, and 5 Buff Orpingtons. Oh, and 1 mystery chick that I suspect will probably end up being a roo.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I came across BYC while researching about my sick duckling. We got him on Saturday and by Sunday afternoon he became very lethargic, drooping his head, hobbling, etc. I kept moving him close to his water and food, dipping his bill in and he would drink, praying he would pull through. At times he would perk up only to decline again. This morning around 10am, he drank his last drink and died in my hands. We are heartbroken. I wish I had known some of the info I have found tonight so I could have given him more of a chance. It pains me to think it could have been as simple as adding some ACV to his water to help him perk up and make it through. It has been a rough day for us, we have 2 ducklings remaining, but this is the start of our farm animals and it is so tough to lose one right off.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I enjoy reading and various crafts and arts. We enjoy nature, camping, and sports. It has been a dream to live on a small farm and have animals and now that it becoming our hobby as we are just getting started, although my gardening isn't going so well this first year, although I think the yo-yo weather might be a part of that.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have been married to an amazingly, wonderful man for 10 years. We have 9 children that I homeschool ranging in age from 9 years to 9 months (the ducks were birthday presents for our twins turing 3 who wanted pet ducks - although they are only aloud to look, not touch yet.) We have 2 beautiful collies, Autobahn is a sable and white with a trifactor for Tri-color and is 8 years old (my b-day present back then), Kubota is 1 year old and a blue merle (my Mother's Day gift last year). We have 4 cats, Boscoe indoor that is 10 years old and is a Maine Coon, Halo outdoor that is 11 years old and is a Calico, Sunny & Stormy - 7 week old kittens to be outdoor mousers, but for now are inside till they get a bit bigger. We also now have 2 ducklings - Royalty is a Rouen I believe but has a crest on his/her head; Puddles we are unsure, but think might be a bit older Rouen as she/he is bigger than the other two we got but has the yellow and black markings, He doesn't have the two lines on the side of the face, but one really think black marking, the rest of his marking are the same as Rouens. Quack Quack that we lost today was a Rouen. We now have 10 keets as well, and 3 Guinea Fowl that were given to us and think the neighbors is a better place to hang out.

We are Boomer Sooner Okies!

from the Columbia River Gorge!! Sorry about your little duckling......we just recently lossed our little crested bantam Gracie who was only 4 weeks old. It is very sad. But you now have this wonderful site to help you in the future, I hope things look up for you and your new farm from here on out.
