Hi! I'm Jennifer. I'm new to chickens - we just got 21 chicks at the beginning of March. Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Sicilian Butercups, Rhode Island Reds, Ameraucanas, Australorps. Some of the ones the kids picked out were straight runs so now we have 5 potential roosters. Two I'm fairly certain of.
Found BYC.com through Grit magazine. A ton of wonderful information on this site, so glad I found it.
My hubby and I remodel houses (happened by accident after building our own home 7 years ago) - I usually handle the tile, flooring, and faux finishes while he tackles structure and cabinetry. He also builds custom furniture. I love to do mosaics with any kind of tile. I've just recently learned to knit. Hubby's building a pottery wheel for me, something I've always wanted to try.
This year we've decided to become more self-sufficient. We have an 8000 sq ft garden - overkill, I know, but his Dad went a little crazy on the tractor. ;-) We have a 500 acre farm with cattle on it. I'm still a bit of a city girl, but a tomboy so I'll try anything at least once.
The kids - Bryon, 15; Abbi, 13; Caleb, 8 - are enjoying the chickens as much as I am. Bryon I think more for what predators might become hunting targets. And my youngest two just think they're cute.
My husband and I both work in a local ER. I'm a city girl that grew up in a college town. He's always lived on a farm. This farm has been in his family as long as Oklahoma's been a state.
I look forward to getting to know you all and welcome any advice you'd like to impart.
Blessings!
Jen
