Hi! This is Allie in Portland, unintentionally joining the HUGE B.Y. chicken trend here in town.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Yes, it is my first time and I brought my chicks home for the first time in late March.
I had a few hurdles, many posted here - my littlest chick, a S-L Wyandotte, just up and expired about a week and a half after I brought her home. i bought an Austrolorp to replace her and everything was going great, then one of my girls was taken by a predator.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?/(3) What breeds?

That brings me to the final 3 chicken (legal limit) flock
Ameracauna/Aracauna (each saleslady said something different) who is colored and named Ginger
Black Austrolorp named Ducky
Light Brahma named Shiva who is twice the age and size of the other two! I got her to fill out my flock after the predator incident.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Googling.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Bellydance! Art making, cooking and sipping wine with my girlfriends.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I also have a senior cat named Sammy who is a total mama's boy and is not happy with my attention being diverted! I am an art teacher at a local public high school, which is really fun. I have maternal instincts for everything BUT babies, so between the cat, chickens, students, and my friends I get to take care of lots of beings and enjoy myself doing it! My boyfriend is happy to put up with all these critters but he grew up on a dairy farm so has no desire to clean up poop ever again. I love Portland and I have lots of "chicken buddies" to share and compare with.

I've already been helped out so much by this forum! Thanks!
