Newbie from Pennsylvania!

I was doing some research and saw that Australorps are a really nice choice for laying and temperament? I'm definitely looking for a "friendly" chicken. Haha and they seem to be fairly common if I'm correct?

I picked up some Australorps last year at the TSC(tractor supply company). They just started to lay. I have a rooster that seems to be friendly so far. They will be a year old in April. They aren't mean to each other. I like them. My rooster's comb was huge and got bad frostbite from this extremely cold winter.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Australorps are super friendly and affectionate. They are great layers and an all around great breed!

Australorps are a great choice. They are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years, and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs.
