Hello! I thought that I'd drop by, say hi and tell you about my new lil' ones. I am new to the chicken world so please feel free to offer advice, comments, humor....etc.
On April 8th we got 4 one week old chicks. 3 are Buff Orpingtions (hope I got that right) and one is a Barred Plymouth Rock.
The Blondies are named Sophie, Sunny, and Lemon (the latter chosen by my 5yr.old) and ironically all the names seem to fit their personalities. Sophie is most certainly the main lady in charge. Sunny likes to play peek a boo while you hold her and Lemon just wants to keep up with the other two. Bella is the Barred Plymouth Rock and right now her coloring sort of reminds me of a penguin...lol but that is starting to change as she seems to get more and more white highlights in her black feathers each day.
I think that Lemon and Bella are actually younger than Sophie and Sunny because they are smaller and don't have quite as many feathers as the other girls do. I am guessing it is only by a week or so...but again this is all new to me!
We handle them daily so that they are used to that from the get go and I must admit it is comical watching them. Sometimes it seems as if they really think of me as "mommie" because when I am holding them and they perch on my finger when I go to put them back they either don't want to leave my hands or my finger...lol.
