Newbie Hatching Thread!

I know! Incubating eggs has been something I've always wanted to try, and the fact that they are so close to hatching makes me fidgety.
I really hope they can hatch without trouble, because I don't think I have the knowledge, let alone any skill, of how to help them. Even if they needed help, I admit I would be reluctant to help them, with the huge chance of me making things worse. So I decided that if some don't hatch right away, and take even a few days longer, I'll try not to hurt them by trying to help, and hope they can make it on their own.
My sister said she saw one rocking slightly (Not sure if I believe her...). Would the eggs move when the chicks reposition themselves for hatching?

The eggs can rock when the chick are moving insite.
Usualy it means they are very close to hatching when they start to rock.

I won't help my chicks unless maybe if it is the last to hatch. I don't want to schrinkwrap the other chicks who might have a better chance.
But then i will have to wait longer then you. I set 2 feb, so i'm only in week 1.

I think by the time mine are as far as your's, i won't be as relaxed insite as i am now.
But we'll see.

Its a great learning experience, and nerve wrecking too !!! You just got to be prepared for them. I had one chickie desperatly trying to get out of the shell after 33 hours !! I had no choice but to help break up the egg. Shes doing fine now !, I notice one of her toe is a little curled from trying to get out. But she is walking fine and healthy ( silkie)

You are right, it all is one big schooling.
And even with al the highs and lows, you'll end up an experience richer.

And the best way to learn (for me anyway) is to do it.
And since we have the best support group on here, you be likely to make the right choice and do what gives all the chicks the best chance of a healty hatch and a nice life.

I got my first pip today around 11:20!

But since then, I haven't seen much progress, and I haven't seen other eggs with pips. I'll give it about 24 hours before I panic, spaz out and beg for help. The pip was on my Polish egg, which makes me quite happy! My current polish are my favorite chickens-so much personality and ditziness. I'll update this thread with news as my first hatch continues!

It wil take awhile for the little chick to get used to the air it's breading so it is no problem that there is nothing happening.

And when the first one is making a lot of noise, you'll get more pips, just wait and see.

I will be candeling today for the first time, on day seven now......

Hatch day!

I'm sorry, I tried to post pictures on this post so many times, but it gave my computer a headache. You'll have to check my albums for pictures!
The first chick to hatch was the polish egg.
When I woke up for class, I was just in time to watch it push it’s way out of the zipped egg! It looked like a lot of effort, but the chick seemed very satisfied with its self. It chirped at me, then promptly fell asleep, leaving me elated, and a little late for class!
The second chick to hatch was one of the Brahmas-it hatched around 3:30, and I missed it by about ten minutes… It’s still all soggy and damp, but him (Her?) and his polish friend are having fun romping around the incubator, and rolling the other eggs around!

Three more eggs left. Two have definite pips, So I hope to wake up to baby chicks tomorrow! There really isn’t a lot of room left in the incubator, with two chicks, some eggs and egg shells, so I hope the remaining eggs hatch quickly, so we can get them to roomier quarters!

It really does! I have to be even more patient, and not open the incubator 'till the remaining eggs hatch! Its tough to resist two cute peeping faces staring at you pathetically when you walk by, just begging to be held!

What are you hatching, Meshellrose?
