Hello everyone!
I have Cochin bantams (colour pearl gray) now for just over 12 years. They brood and hatch and have quarrels. I in turn was granted the privilege to get to know them. I know my cranky hens, but good ones. The kind ones that forgets to even get 5 eggs under her fluffs. The ones I can trust with more eggs as she always will find a place under her skirts. They really have a lot of patience with me and I have learnt their language. I have lost some to prey animals; sky and earthbound. I have learnt that baby chickens have such survival skill if they are warm. I ‘ve picked up seemingly lifeless babies but after handwarming.. a miracle.
Since last year I have runner ducks. Quite a new adventure. I have been reading a lot but nothing compares to real interaction with these feathered goats. Yes. We have sheep. I grew up with sheep and goats. But Runners are goatish. Such fun, mischief and intelligence. I can’t handle them like my chickens but sure they are easy to herd. They make such a mess, the fun of toddlers in a pool with a beach! Oh, such a long introduction. I grew up in South Africa on a farm but I live in The Netherlands since my twenties. I always have questions and I love to read the experiences of others. I have found this forum by googling questions. That simple
