Many of us here, have farming in our blood, and city living in our past. But, we too have seen the light...that is, the light in the chicken coop! LOL!

As you have noticed, there's lots of great experience here to help you with questions!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

You'll find that most of us don't think highly of the prefab coops out there... My new favorite is the cattle panel type.

Generally the pre fab coops are not able to stand up to the weather. They are billed as having room for x number of birds, when in truth aren't large enough for half that amount. They look cute and that is about it.

Please check out the 'coops section' for lots of designs, some plans and reasons for why something is built in.
