Hi Mike, glad you joined us at Backyard chickens. The problem with living in the middle of nowhere - is your farm may become a fast food supplier to area predators. I would be especially careful about coop and run, flock, security. Hope you have a great hatch -

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC.

Thanks for taking the time to say hi and the offer of advice. It's so nice to know I have some experience on hand if required.

5 days into incubation now and looking forward to candling at the weekend to see where we are. No expectations yet but been catching up on brood boxes and coop designs. Really appreciate the warnings about predators as we're very rural here but I have plans for the chicken equivalent of Fort Knox as long as I can teach them to head home safely at night as I hope to let them have free reign of the garden when they're old enough.

I'm in the fortunate position of working from home so will be right on hand should I hear anything going on.

I'll post some pics of the candling once it's done.
