Hi and welcome Ed im not too far from you either im not far from keene in east swanzey.
Barred Rocks are also good layers and I really like the americana for the pretty colored eggs. the grain stores will have flyers out soon for chicks unless you are getting them from a hatchery sooner nice to meet you and be glad to talk chickens with you anytime!

Hi Everyone,
I just received 12 little chicks today they all came in warm and healthy not a single loss.
I'm so glad they made it so safe,it helps that I paid extra for Express shipping.
If I can figure out how to post pics they will be up soon.
Thank you all for the advice.
Ed

Thanks Lurky,
I ordered the assorted brown egg layers for the variety and it should also be fun guessing what kinds they are.
My kids are looking through the catalog now and naming them after herbs in our garden.

the pretty brown one kinda look like rhode island reds. I think it will be alot easier to tell after a few weeks when they start to feather in. Some end up looking nothing like what the chick looked like. I had a very dark dark brown chick with the chipmunk markings and it is mostly white with some black.
