Newbie needing help with breed and gender.

Don't be too discouraged. I would suggest buying older pullets so that you can avoid someone taking advantage of you again. And like someone else said, you can even post pics to know for sure what you are getting.
 
I also got this 16 week old from him a week ago. he says its a female. Can you help me confirm?

She looks like a regular Red Sex Link, the coloring is a pullet's ( she could it could be a second generation RSL), there are no saddle feathers, and the comb is the right size and color for that age. The younger chicks are all roosters, their combs are too big and red for their age.

I think this is a male, possibly a second generation Red Sex Link (only the first generation can be color sexed). Are those neck feathers actually pointy, or are they rounded with pointy markings? Sometimes it helps to put a dark piece of paper under them. If they are truly pointy, then this is a male.
