Newbie question on golf balls

I think the golf ball thing is more for the human side of chickeneering. They're going to lay their eggs where they want or most probably where they feel most comfortable. I've seen them lay an egg walking across the field. As far as your question goes though...could you possibly be using range balls? I always feel a little embarrassed with them around.
