I'm curious about this too, breed can make all the difference between a lovely hobby and a pain in the butt bloodbath.
Nice design for a few birds. I'd like it better if that welded wire was 1x2 instead of 2x4 (if that's what it is); way more secure. I'd put an underground apron of 1x2 ww around the perimeter, extending about 2' out & running up the sides about the same distance; discourages rats & other burrowing/digging predators.
Those are mostly aggressive Birds..Get something really Docile like Orpington or Silkies for smaller Birds. Cochin are good too.
Nope, no RIR's for sure for non aggrssiveness they are sooo mean. Barred rocks are iffy it can go either way. Araucanas not much experience there, do have an ameracuna and she's not a nice girl. Since you're doing this for a kiddo, definitely stick with orphingtons, Cochins, silkies or faverolles if you'd like your son to be able to handle them without any fuss.
). One of them once tried to hitch a ride in the car! The only behavior you might consider "aggressive" is the occasional peck at sparkly jewelery, etc. because they're curious. If you're considering Barred Rocks, I would make sure I was getting pullets. I once had a BR rooster, I would also consider Easter Eggers. I have two. One's kind of flighty and not too friendly, but we got her after most of her old flock was killed in a dog attack, so I think that it's because of how she was raised. My sister's bird is really ultra sweet and is one of our favorites. She even comes over for cuddles! Lastly, I would look into Speckled Sussex. My SS, Amber, was so friendly and sweet. She also had a really cute personality and would follow me around like a dog, not to mention how pretty they are. But this is based on personal experience, so I would definitely research on these more.
