Hello,
I'm working on planning my first chicken coop/run and am confused about the best way to construct & attach roofing rafters. The coop design working as my inspiration is the Wichita coop, and it looks like with this design the rafters are just screwed into the sides of the top of the wall studs. Here is an example of what I'm talking about from Sam3's build:

I've always seen rafters attached using a top plate and notches or hanger ties, something like this:

The first example seems a lot easier to pull off. Is there any major structural disadvantage?
Thanks,
Todd
