After careful thought several conversations and much consideration we dispatched our rooster with a knife and ate him. It was not an easy decision. When we went to put blu-kote on the chickens (which we did with q-tips thanks for that advice) their heads were so badly damaged that we could see their skulls in many places. That really made our decision for us. We could not in good conscience just allow this rooster to just beat on these hens so badly. I wanted to give you all an update as your advice has been super helpful.
It is much more peaceful and calm in the yard right now. We received 7 eggs today as well, a new record! While we were sad to lose the big guy, in the best interest of the flock itself we had to let him go. It was painless and quick.
Thanks again to you all. This is not 100% easy managing a new flock, and your advice has been more than helpful.
Honestly, today I feel less like a "newbie".
