Newbie Rooster question

Sorry your rooster is such a problem., most are. There is such a glut of roosters looking for homes that it is a buyers market. You will often find show quality of different breeds on the BYC buy, sell, trade forum. Since HOA and a lot of communities will not allow roosters in their area - lots of them get eaten or are competing for homes.

What your young rooster really needs is a "heck on wheels," older hen who will immediately change his attitude. Whatever you do, please separate him from the girls for now. Sounds like he will really end up killing ones that do not submit to him. It does happen.

Oh yes, WELCOME TO BYC

Thank you all so much for the information.

After careful thought several conversations and much consideration we dispatched our rooster with a knife and ate him. It was not an easy decision. When we went to put blu-kote on the chickens (which we did with q-tips thanks for that advice) their heads were so badly damaged that we could see their skulls in many places. That really made our decision for us. We could not in good conscience just allow this rooster to just beat on these hens so badly. I wanted to give you all an update as your advice has been super helpful.

It is much more peaceful and calm in the yard right now. We received 7 eggs today as well, a new record! While we were sad to lose the big guy, in the best interest of the flock itself we had to let him go. It was painless and quick.

Thanks again to you all. This is not 100% easy managing a new flock, and your advice has been more than helpful.

Honestly, today I feel less like a "newbie".

JVA
