Thanks all for the warm welcome...from near (Minnesota) and far. Something new to learn every day from you all. This is going to be so much fun!

I posted a local Craiglist request for a rooster.....mostly for "hawk-watch". Wrong or right...I bought for $5 a beautiful, gentle Black Copper Maran rooster, five and half months old. That came about yesterday and he has joined them now. They aren't cuddling with him but they are peacefully co-existing. I don't think he knows he's a rooster. I'm glad he's not a meanie but I would like him to not be so fearful of me. Will he get over this?

Hello Missa, I'm from Brainerd, south east of Bemidji on 371 or from walker take 371 south and I'm 1 1/2 hrs from there. IMy dad's family is from Tenstrike to Blackduck.

Yup, we drive by Brainerd when we head to the Cities. My building contractor hubby gets up to Blackduck pretty often because in the wake of the buidling recession he became a realtor.

Slowly I am meeting some folks who do chickens around here. This is so good. Coop is still in process and my babies need to get outside!!!
