Hi all-
Been doing a bunch of online research about building/starting a backyard coop. My best friend has a large coop that he free ranges his birds. I had the benefit of taking care of them for a week and now I'm interested in having a small flock. I will probably build my own setup also. I've got a few different breeds I'm currently interested in so we'll see what I actually find locally.

I look forward to lots of reading and probably plenty of questions.

G’Day from down under Skip :frow Welcome!

Sounds like you are off to a great start; having a friend with chickens and an existing coop etc is a great aid when setting up for yourself.

You might be interested in downloading this free e-book My First Year With Chickens and checking out the Coop & Run Forum.

This article may help with picking a breed: Pickin a Chicken

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!
