Hello Everyone! My husband and I have just acquired our first chicks! We've ordered a very cool chicken coop that is supposed to be delivered in 4 weeks (crossing our fingers). We bought 14 chicks, including 2 roosters. They are gold laced wyandottes, buckeyes, welsummers, and americaunas.

They are currently in a stock tank in our garage with a heat lamp. Winter suddenly decided to come back with a vengeance this past weekend so it is very cold here. They are bigger than we anticipated they would be, so I hope they don't outgrow their container before the coop gets here!

I'm sure I will love this forum and will learn a lot here.

Good luck with your chicks! This link may be of use to you if you have any questions about them:

I hope the coop you ordered will be large enough for them!

Thanks, everyone! Our coop is an 8x12 with a run. It is "rated" for 21-24 chickens. We hope to do some free range with them. The coop (and run) will be in a fenced pasture with our horses, so hopefully they can be out during the day and in at night. That's the goal. I really hope they will help with tick control and be happy grazers. Our horses love smaller animals (esp. cats) so I think they will be good. It is about a 5 acre pasture so no crowding..
