I grew up having chickens. I guess that's why I love them so. Last year, after quite a few years, I was able to get a few chicks. Now my ladies are older and with cute little babies everywhere, I decided to get some more. I got them from someone local. After having them a week, I noticed one evening that one was laying off by itself so I scooped it up. It's head was curled up under it's body and it was kind of wobbling back and forth uncontrollable. I separated it and didn't think it would make it through the night. The next day I kept picking it's head up and showing it the food and the water. It started eating and drinking on it's own and continued to do so whenever it or I could get his head up. But he couldn't even stand without flipping over. I called the vet and they said just give him antibiotics and wait and see. None of the others got sick at all. I searched online websites and videos for days of all the diseases and what it seemed to look the most like was newcastle. Anywho, he continued to eat and drink and try to act like a normal little chick. It's been almost two weeks now and that crazy head-curling twitch has almost gone away. I read somewhere that it can take up to 30 days for the symptoms to go away? Perhaps I should have just had him/her put down right away but the vet made it sound like he would quickly croak on his own, and when he didn't, well... you know. I know this was kind of long winded but I just had to put it out there to see what y'all thought. :-)

! Pleased you joined us! Wow! That is quite a story! Glad you stuck with your sick chicken and nursed it through the tough times. Good luck to you and your flock!!

Thank you. I have indeed gotten quite attached to the fuzzy fella. It is something I had never experienced with chickens before. Well, I am certainly glad I joined the site. That's for sure.

You might try Polyvisol infant drops (NO IRON) 2 drops twice a day - sometimes chicks have problems due to nutrional deficiencies. I think he will get better as he goes along.
