Newbie to chicken world

Hi! Welcome to BYC! What a lovely rooster story! I think he will do fine until you can get some hens for him. He sounds very sweet and totally worth saving. There is nothing like having a good rooster around. BTW, if he is really only 6 months, he is a cockerel. Wont be a rooster until he is a year old.

Thanks for giving Jed a home. What are you feeding him? I'd recommend an all flock feed of some sort. Probably a good idea to let the team know what size your coop and run are. Most pre-fabs aren't what they're cracked up to be. General rule of thumb is 4sqft per bird in coop and 10sqft per bird in run, but that is adjustable based upon vertical space and roost space (1sqft per bird).
