Newbie to raising chicks

:)Hubby and I just made the plunge into raising chickens after talking about it for several years. We have 14 two week old chicks (10 RIR, 4 Barred Rock). Our coop is almost finished and we will be starting on the run soon. Would appreciate any advice on training my girls to be tame and not be afraid of us.
 
The best advice I could give you is to hold them often and try to feed them by hand as often as you can. Spending a lot of time with them goes a long way to gaining their trust.

Hand feeding. They love tomatoes, rice, quinoa, pretty much anything (as with most animals, not chocolate).

In my experience, the sooner you feed them leftovers the easier it is to get them to like it. In example, I once bought a chicken who had been in a cage with pellets for food all her life. Gave her some leftovers, she wouldn't touch them.

Later gave her some friends who knew how great leftovers were, and when she saw other chickens devouring them she eventually hopped right in.

But starting them early is the best.

Give them time. Move slowly around them, handle them a lot, but pick them up slowly. Get them out on the living room floor, spend time with them. When they are ready to head out to the coop, go sit with them in the run with a bag of goodies. They will be all over you like bees on honey!! They will get used to you eventually. Chickens are prey and are not yet sure who plans on eating them!
