I am fortunate that I have TWO vets here in town that deals with aviary including chickens.
A few times I took my girls to see the vets, it would cost somewhere between 40 to 60 dollars for a simple visit. Any medications would range anywhere from 30 dollars and up and any performance they do, like surtures, dubbing, treating wounds would be extra twenty dollars and up. And a narcospy would cost 335 dollars for ONE bird to be sent to the U of I along with 50 dollars for putting the bird to sleep.
Now not all of us can afford the vet bills even we all name our pets but sometimes financially we can not afford to treat so many birds all at once in the times of economic hard times most of us had to deal with right now. For me, I would kindly put the bird down and do the best I can in what I have available right now. When times are better, we will give the best possible treatment we can give to our birds, there is no right and wrong in doing the best treatment to your birds, no matter how "humanize" we put in our birds and how much money we put into the stuff. They can be replaced if we chose to do so.
Attitude or not, we should be tolerant of all members in here and come to terms when the bird's owner decided whats best for them, their family and their pocketbooks.
I agree with you SpeckledHen!
