I read where someone had mites all over their chicks. My chicks are just 2 weeks old now and are in the basement all warm and cozy and havent made it to the coop yet. I have a new chicken coop and the run has sand in it. Will I need to worm and dust for mites as a precaution?

If the coop has never been used, you do not need to do anything to disinfect it. I don't think that was your question, but I'll throw that out.

As to the chicks, unless you see signs of infestation, do not medicate. Worming and dusting will stress them. If you see signs of infestation, treatment is necessary, but always make sure of what you are treating for and treat only for that specific infestation. There are different types of worms and mites. They are treated differently.
