Well, it's not real accurate, but the chicks will start peeping inside the eggs a day or so before hatching. I know the "rules" are that you're not supposed to turn them for the last 3 days before hatching, but since you've kind of been thrown into the middle of it, you're going to have to do the best you can.
We don't always follow the rules though do we

I try and stop turning on the 16th day some stop turning on the 14th day. In spite of temps and humidity being wrong or to say the least not perfect we still hatch some . I don't raise the humidity until I see the first pip . Then I raise it to 65 % . If the viewing window fogs over it's to high . A little condensation around the edges of the viewing window mean the humidity is about right for hatching.

Oh wow. I candled them all a couple nights ago.
Had 1 that looked like it just wasn't fertilized.
The rest are big, pretty chicks. Very visible.
I'll see if I can get a good picture. Can see them move. I saw one's eye.
Didn't have a good light. Was having to make do with what I had.

I still have large air cells, so I'll keep turning. When I lose those- then I will be the excited mama hen!

If the air cell is too big the chick may have lost too much moisture and have problems hatching. If the egg hasn’t lost enough moisture and the air cell is too small, the chick will have problems breathing or die when it breaks into the air cell to begin to hatch.

I'm going to try and find the meter today. We live in the middle of nowhere.
I've had the trays full of water- and southern alabama- so it should be pretty humid in there.
I'll have numbers hopefully later today.

Was unable to find a humidity meter- but I swear my whole room is a sauna!
I now understand the "pip" one has the first one.
I thought I could hear chirping last night- but then nothing- so- I convinced myself that it was just my imagination since it was so faint. This morning- I was much more careful. There is definitely a couple of eggs moving a little, and one loud mouth!
I can't wait!!!
