I just wanted to say hello!
I got my first little flock of ducklings back in March and I am an obsessed duck mom. I began with 5 but something got my sweet baby and now I'm down to 4. :(
They are 100% my children, along with 4 cats (they just wandered up and I couldn't say no) and a chihuahua (he was lost and found sick on a road so he came home too).
I'm a solid vegetarian and usually border line vegan so my eggs go to friends and neighbors, I just enjoy having my baby duckies around.
Hubs is a solid supporter and helps with all of the crazy duck ideas I have around the house! When we lost our ducky- he bought the other 4 a massive new swimming pool to lift their spirits!
I've recently had the pleasure of treating a case of bumble foot, and we're still trying to get little Tinkerbell walking properly. The threads on BYC have been super helpful as well as some private conversations with people on here and I can't wait to read and learn more on how to keep my babies happy and healthy!

Hello, :welcome

I myself started with ducks! They are soooo cute!
Fast forward three years later, I now have 1 goose, 5 ducks, 15 chickens and 6 eggs under a broody. Oh did I mention I also added to cocker spaniels last year.... Will also be getting another goose in the spring.... I think it's safe to say I have a healthy obsession. :lau

What type of ducks do you have?

Haha sounds about right!
I have pekins. At our previous home that we rented we had muscovies in the neighborhood and I was obsessed. So when we bought a home I knew I would have to have my own flock. We have a pond but it's mainly sourced by runoff and they won't swim in it. I think they're too picky and like clean water too much---can't blame them though!

:th:welcome the people on here have always been so helpful! I started my farm (I have enough animals to have a farm now lol) 3 1/2 years ago and I have had about 150 chickens not all at once (40 was my Max at once lol) I now have 25 and 7 eggs under a broody momma, 4 ducks, 8 guineas, 3 dogs and 3 cats. (All the cats and dogs are rescues but one dog) and the hubs just ordered 50 quail eggs... Not to mention a 14 month old and a baby on the way. Lol the obsession grows and grows!

Oh wow! So, you're superhuman?!! I don't know if I could keep up with that much. My babies now are SO spoiled and needy and I can't hardly keep up!

Lol I'm far from superhuman but it's a lot to keep up with but is so worth it all!! The joy of having all the animals is worth it! It all started with 6 baby chicks lol its all very addicting! Excpecally when you get to see you babies hatch and raise their own babies!

I too have pekins! I also just rescued a chocolate runner from someone down the street because they didn't want and weren't able to care for her. She had a sister but I assume was take by a predator because they just threw them in the yard and they ran off.

I bet! I'm getting eggs like crazy but they won't lay on them so I usually pull them. The longest I left them in the nest was a month just to see if she would finally stay in the nest but she didn't. I ended up with 45 eggs I wasn't sure what to do with them! I'm not sure if they'll ever hatch any on their own- which is fine.
I tell people though- 'i'm not trying to have baby ducks, but I'm not preventing it'
Sounds like a familiar story with some of my girlfriends haha!

Oh poor thing. Good for you though! I'm sure she'll cozy right into her new home!
