It is good to hear that the reds are still laying eggs!

Mine have nearly stopped for the winter. They are older though
 
Welcome Backyard Chickens . We have a member who knows how to deal with bears.
If she would see them on her property she would go out and throw a lighted fire cracker at them. A few repeats and as soon as her back door would open, they were already scattering.

You could also try electrified fencing. Bears are heavily coated and don't feel the shock through their fur. So you need their nose to touch your fence. With electricity turned off attach some bacon (or other) strips to the fence with aluminum foil. Turn electric back on. This way when the bear goes for a snack his nose will make contact and he will learn a good lesson.
