Hello, I'm new to this site. My goal is to build a chicken coop and raise 4-5 chickens in my backyard. I'm looking for any advice or tips on how to keep them healthy and what type of feed to give them. I'm also looking for a local place to buy baby chicks. I live in Burlington, ON.

Welcome, @Suzy05! I'm glad you found us! Yes, this is the place for you! Feel free to ask more questions. Good luck finding chicks!

As chicks you are going to want to feed them Chick Grower or Starter. Make sure they are Crumbles and not Pellets for chicks. And when they get older... Well, we'll get to that later so you aren't overwhelmed.

Once again, welcome!:frow

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Build larger than the minimum recommendation of 4 sq ft per bird in the coop and 10 sq ft per bird in the run.
Build a walk in style coop.
Put a solid roof on your run.
Run a circuit to the coop if at all possible.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You might stop be our Learning Center for some good reads on all the aspects of keeping chickens here.

And if you want to chat with your neighbors in the Canadian thread, you can do that here.

Good luck and welcome aboard! :-)
