Hey y'all!! My name is Amber. I got my first chicks in 2016. I started with 6 chicks, but over time that number has fluctuated greatly due to hatchlings, adoptions, and unfortunately deaths. Currently, though I have 18 chickens and 1 turkey. Most of my chickens are mixed between Silver Laced Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds, and Buff Orpingtons. I also have a few silkies and booted bantam. I'm not entirely sure why I am so fascinated with chickens, but I just think they are really cool! (Like most animals), they all have distinct personalities, preferences, and colors. They have so many awesome features too such as monovision (they see farsighted out of their left eye and nearsighted in their right eye), they can count, they recognize up to 100 different faces, they can learn their names, etc. etc. Cool features that are almost exclusive to silkies include five toes instead of four, black skin, and brown eyes. I just think that is sooo amazing!! I also have four cats and one rabbit that I love dearly. I aspire to become a veterinarian and join a wildlife conservation team to preserve endangered species. I would also to work at and even start my own animal sanctuary for animals that have been rescued from factory farms. I also really enjoy photography as well. I hope I can have photography as a side career or something. Anyway, I am so honored to be a part of this community!! Can't wait to meet you all!
