Hi everyone,
I am new to keeping chickens and as of yet just looking round to see wat the best chickens will be for us.
We have built a large hutch/coop and they will be allowed out around the garden to when we r in. Though they also have a small run on the side to go in and out of.
Has anyone any suggestions for best breeds for friendliness as my children will like to pick them up etc.
Thankyou in advance

Welcome to BYC!

I am a huge fan of the Orpington breeds. Very docile, kid friendly, great layers, and very hardly over all. Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds as well as many other breeds make great kid birds. Here is a link to a nice page of breeds that gives some quick info on the breeds and how docile they are...

You can even take a look at our breeds page here BYC to see what other members are saying about the different breeds...

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! TwoCrows gave you some great links to get you started. For pets for children, Silkies and Cochins are probably the two most popular breeds, they are not very good egg layers but are very friendly. Some breeds that are pretty easy to get along with and are better layers you might want to look at are Orpingtons, lots of people really like these as pets, Wyandottes, Sussex, and Plymouth Rocks for others.
