Newbie

Welcome from another Newbie as well as an Irish lass wannabe!
My daughter and I spent a week touring your gorgeous country before she started medical school. Among our favorite memories are the narrow country roads, fearless truck (lorry?) drivers, driving a Spanish stick shift in roundabouts and wanting to hug just about every one we met!
I've just posted a huge long note to Dawg53 (poor guy!) and hope to learn more about deworming my first flock (6 Red Sex Link pullets) for the first time even though I haven't spotted worms — and which is the safest insecticide to use. Sigh.
Glad we all have each other in this journey!
Cheers from the Oklahoma heartland.

Very glad to have you here on BYC. The westie pups in your avatar are so cute. Well what can you say, they are terriers after all.

When I walk around our neighborhood I pass a home with a Westie in the yard. Its a few years old but always in great coat and condition. I wonder if they showed it. There is a squirrel that likes to torment her. If he ever falls out of the tree he will be sorry.

A big THANK YOU to everyone for the wonderful welcome. We really appreciate it. Sorry for not posting sooner but life is busy at the moment. Anyways, here's an update on our livestock. We have lost another feathered friend, I am guessing a fox took her although I have no evidence to prove it. No feathers, signs of entry, etc. It was suggested that it may have been a weasel or a stoat which is a possibility. I have also discovered that one of our goats has being pestering the hens, he traps one in a corner and prods it with his hoof, I think he likes the sound it makes! So I shall be moving the hens out to a new location further down the garden and building a new shelter (drawings would be handy, hint, hint). I shall also be increasing the brood but have not decided with what yet ( suggestions welcome). That's it for now, photos to follow.

Hello Drumstick Diva, what a great name and avatar, I particularly like the hat! Our two boys are called Ziggy, named after David Bowies' wonderful character, Ziggy Stardust, and Clooney named after yet another character. I wanted to call them Rommel and Monty, German and English generals from WWII's Desert Storm, but that got shot down by the powers that be.

I'm sorry about the loss of another of your flock. That's a new one for me about your goat. I've had Nubian goats in the past along with chickens and they never paid any attention to my chickens. Looking forward to seeing your photos.
