Hi there, I'm new to chickens. We are building our coop' reading lots and getting ready to buy our first chickens. I found this site in one of my many searches on Google for chickens. My family lives in lake elsinore ca. I joined this in hopes to meet others in elsinore and find out all I can about chickens before we begin. Also where to buy my chickens from when I'm ready. We want to get the Orpington chickens and stick with one breed, as our coop and run as of now is small. I am a stay at home mom and college student right now, and a homeschool mom to three high schoolers, been married to my wonderful husband for 19 years, and we are ready to Join the chicken community, plan on having the chickens for eggs. No roosters. My other hobbies are camping, reading, crafts, being with friends and family. I look forward to getting to know others and hopefully meet some from my community. Take care :)

Hello from Oregon & welcome to BYC - glad you joined us

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. My wife and I home-schooled our children, and now our daughter is following in our footsteps with our granddaughter (pictured in my avatar). It sounds like you have things well planned out. Orpingtons are a wonderful breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are hardy, friendly and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Orpingtons.

Welcome!

I'm glad you joined the BYC flock.

You'll enjoy the Orpington breed. Though I've never kept them myself, they are supposed to be quite docile and very good layers.
