Hi new friends,
i am starting and i have a lot of questions and would like to gain wisdom from your experiences. not wanting to re invent the wheel, i am using the template suggested by our moderator
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? -not really new as when i was a kid, my family had some. but in my own life, i don't have hv any yet and would like to start soon.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? none yet.
(3) What breeds do you have?
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? internet. i'm also a subscriber to pasturedhogs group (looking to raise pigs also) and pasturedpoultry (looking at chickens seriously soon)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? nothing in particular (pretty boring life huh?)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
i am a full time corporate IT worker, recently married to a person whose lifelong dream was to become a farmer. I'm canadian by citizenship, Filipino by birth and now american by residence. we recently acquired a piece of land with a modest MH in arlington, wa. we just moved in last feb, DH changed flooring from carpet to laminates (while also employed full time), we now have a sweet, smart bull mastiff/lab mix from a rescue. DH clears away the blackberry bushes while taking a break from rehabbing the shed and figuring out ditching solutions to our land's water dilemna. me on the other hand had weeded out a garden and has planted strawberries given by a friend. i made (and cancelled) an order of 50 layers from McMurray as DH said we need planning to do for such a number of birds, altho chicks were not supposed to arrive until june 26.
anyway.
i was actually reading up the thread on ducks. i noticed an abundance of slugs in the yards and was wanting to get ducks for control and why not eggs too? so there! reason for joining is primarily be able to ask questions and also learn from your experiences and also share mine in the future.
