Never had this before and not sure what I should do. Had two chicks hatch yesterday and they were moved into brooder last night. Had three more hatch this morning and put them in the brooder kinda keeping an eye on them to make sure things went smooth and the 1 day old grabbed the lil guy by the wing and was dragging him around while the second one was biting another baby. I pull the 3 lil ones out and made a seperate box will I have to keep them apart from now on or should they be able to go in together tomorrow? I have only incubated a handful of times but have never had this happen. Any and all suggestions are appriecated.

if they are all similar sized you should be fine mixing them. they will pick a little at first but everything should be fine.

I have also read in many books as well that too much 'unnatural' light in a brooder can also cause bullying! But congrats! I just had my first chick hatch last night :)

welcome to byc.

I don't know why I didn't say this before, but red light seems to help relax the chicks. maybe this will help

Thanks :) yeah I have a coloured bulb as it still gives the same amount of heat off but isn't as bright! Now idea why too much light can cause bullying, I just read it in one of by chicken books :)

I had a white light on them exchanged it with my last hatch and put them together and they are fine. The brooder is big enough for them right now won't be in a few weeks. I am now trying to save a duck that was born without all of its yolk absorbed.
