Hi from CT USA.
Dawn, I live with my 2 golden retrievers and 2 hens.

Last summer a friend gave me a bird coop and one duck.
I wanted chix, so I bought 2 retired layers ($5/each!) To keep duck company.
Duck was so messy, I felt bad for chix and sent duck to live w/ my man friend who has more land and pond.

Leaves me w/ 2 chix, Milli and Vanilli, who started laying this spring, a pleasant surprise.
I think they're RI reddish sex links.
Will post pix later.

. They sound lovely!

I added an avatar photo of "my girls" - Milli and Vanilli.

Milli on the left - darker/redder in color; shy, quiet, spends a lot of time wandering off by herself and seems to be in her own little world a lot of the time. Sometimes when I approach her, she hunkers down easily so I can pick her up, although I'm not sure she loves it, she is calm and tolerates it ok. I think she was beak trimmed when she was a chick and has a blunted beak, in my limited opinion it looks like too much was taken off. She seems to have more difficulty eating, picking things up, and digging into the fruit and veg snacks I put out for them.

Vanilli on the right - lighter, more golden in color; my friend who took care of her for me when I was away for a week dubbed her "the pushy one" because she jumps on the food cup. She also runs up to anyone she sees, comes when called, gets in the middle of everything (lawn mowing, hedge trimming, gardening, pool cleaning, dogs, any vehicle coming or going, any activity going on) and is a lot of fun. Sometimes she doesn't want to be picked up and can be hard to catch. When she feels like it, I can pick her up, pet her, hold her tail and gently shake her butt so her tail wiggles.

They are so much fun and I love them both in their separate ways.
Right now they're in lockdown for not coming home last night
