Hello
I recently took home my classroom chicks and am considering keeping them. I am worried how my neighbors will respond(I do live in the suburbs of Northern Ca.)
I thought if I can do everything possible to eliminate the smell and buy a predator proof coop, and provide a spacious run...but then I realized I'm not sure just how noisy my chickens will be. At this time I have 6 chicks. I am not sure how many roosters I have.( I won't be able to keep the roosters) So , I would love to hear about just how noisy 6 chickens may be.
I don't mind the noise but I'm afraid my neighbors may. Thank you so much for any help!

Really depends on the individual birds... some hens are fairly quiet, some can get pretty loud.

My loudest bird we can hear while walking our dogs 2 houses away... that's 2 houses each on 2 acre lots. We know it's ours since every hen's song is slightly different, so I can differentiate her calls from a neighbor's hens.

Haha That’s a loud bird!
Thank you so much for your help!

Chickens do talk, some more than others. Our neighbors are fine with their noise, including our roosters, and we have asked them. Out in farmland, our flock, including the roosters, are all perfectly legal, so no issues there.
Offer eggs when your pullets are laying, that helps with neighbors too!
Post pictures! Chicks, what kinds? Coop and run?

Each chicken will have its own personality with its own propensity towards talking. All of my chickens are very quiet and relaxed- and then there’s Piggy. She is hilarious because she constantly thinks the sky is falling! But it’s pretty charming and none of the neighbors mind her squawks. Fresh, delicious eggs are always a good offering as well. Have fun with your new chicks ❤

They can be very loud ...or not.
Especially pullets near to point of lay.
I had a group of 10 pullets one year that were so loud I had to close the windows of my house so I could work over the phone.
If you are allowed to have chickens in your town, some fresh eggs may appease the neighbors.

Thank you:)

We have 26, normal noise until bedtime. Apparently when one or 2 do not get on the roost properly some one speaks up and gets them in line. I would say 6 will not be to terrible. I agree they will have find their own personality. No flock is the same. They will not be noisecore than the barking dog down the street haha
