Newly built chicken coop

Great coop. I agree with the post about angling a board on top of the nest boxes to keep them from getting up there and pooping on them. This is a pic of a single nest box but the idea is the same.

Thanks for all the comments. I will try to address to questions that were asked. As far as the metal roof being hot, we have hade several days at 100+ degrees and the inside of the coop remains cooler then the outside. I think the metal actually helps reflect the heat. As far as ventilation, I have thought about that. Since the roof is corrugated it does allow for some venting. It's so new, and the chickens are still small there doesn't seem to be any bad smells in there yet (like ammonia). I may add some additional vents in the top. I am still going to add some exterior trim to the coop, I want it to look a little more like a barn, so perhaps when I do that I can add some additional venting. The litter I am using is pine shavings. Thanks again for all the comments and thoughts.

It looks awesome, but the venting is essential. It is not just for smells, it is important for the chickens health. They will need fresh ventilated air in their coop in all weather.

Also, I would add a lip or trim of some sort around the hole in the floor by the ladder, that will keep your bedding from falling out.

Looking good though, good luck with your new chickens!

I put vents on the front and back of my coop. I will be having more of a problem venting the new coop when we build ours. The girls like to get on the upper roost and look out.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. OK I think I will put in some vents at the top. There is a fair amount of air coming through the floor, but I will add a few more. Thanks for the insight.

Wow things move fast around here! I came back to update my thread and it was four pages back already. I added some trim to finish off the coop. I am going for a barn look if you were not able to tell.
