One of my chicks hatched a few hours ago and is stumbling around the incubator. It is bumping its head and face on incubator's heating element. Is this going to burn it, particularly its eyes? It feels very hot to me but certainly incubator manufacturers thought of chicks standing up when the created this thing right? Anyone know anything about this??????

Ick! I've never seen a heat element close enough for the chicks to touch. That does NOT sound good!

If it were me, I would take the chick out and put him in a brooder ASAP and watch the others.

We have 2 LG bators and the chicks seem to bump into the elements-no one else has this problem? I just let them go, never saw any singed feathers.

Yeah. That's what mine is, an LG.

I never had a problem with it with my lg and I use cartons to hatch so the chicks are up pretty high. If you think it's hurting itself and really need to get it out of there take the bator into a hot steamy bathroom to do it. Hopefully that will keep your temp and humidity from dropping too much and endangering the chicks that are still trying to hatch.

I know this is an old thread but my big chick did this just last night after hatching-it'seye is shut this morning and looks bad. I am misting it with colloidal silver to prevent infection. Any other ideas?
Poor thing-I feel bad -I'm going to have DH work on this before next hatch
