Hi - please can anyone help? - chick hatched this morning at day 24 after the others two days ago - I found it quite cold and flat when the mother left the nest with the other chicks to feed. I brought it in - it has warmed up nicely under a lamp, has had water via a dropper and is cheaping loudly but whenever it stands it rears its head back then flips over backwards.

The poor thing probably just needs a while to get it's feet under him. They are really uncoordinated at birth and flail around quite a bit. Just give it a little time and keep us updated. Good Luck

Hi! I always have one in every hatch that does this! I just keep flipping it back over! If it is chirping alot check the temp(needs to stay warm, but not too hot), make sure it has food and water. Put a stuffed animal or new feather duster in with it to keep it company!

Hi thanks - helpful replies. Yes the toes on one foot are curled at times but the leg isn't splayed. It just lies on its back once it has flipped - then occasionally turns over - lifts its head right back and flips again. It's 12 hours since it hatched so guess I'll see how it is in the morning .

I have a RIR that is two weeks old now and does that too! Mostly when it drinks though........it is so odd.....I was wondering if it had something wrong with it, but it seems perfectly fine otherwise...
