just don't let him freerange or anything and don't move around the feeder/waterer in his coop without letting him know where they are. good luck with your chicky!

the chick is still doing good tonight, I noticed he was panting a bit and having a hard time finding water (he pecks to low on the outside instead of in the dish) so I made him a lil step so he can stand on it and peck as low as he wants and will still find it, worked perfectly and training him where it was was easy, just dumped the water in the cup (to let it make water noise) and he went right to it

Oh how adorable! I already love him! You are doing a great thing taking on this little chick. Personally I would find this to be a great oportunity to get an inside bird. Lol! You can get him little diapers and all that and let him follow you around everywhere.

I would!

I think she is going to do fine with your help!!!

Once she learns where things are it won't be too much extra to take care of her! Great idea for the step! I forgot to tell you mine doesn't do well with things low to the ground. She doesn't peck down far enough and misses most times so I elevated the food and water for her because it makes it easier for her. Great job!!!

I have a blind Barred Rock. It took me a few days after we got her home to realize it. She was VERY sleep at first. I even posted about her here. I didn't think she would make it past a few days. I had to hand feed her for a while. Soon though, she thrived. She is about 3 months old now and is doing quite well. She eats and drinks just like the rest of them. I have to be careful not to move her food and water around. That is easy to do now that they are outside. She even climbed the ladder to go into the coop from the run...and comes back down. Sometimes she falls, but it's not often.

She's the sweetest thing ever. She loves to be cuddled and held. She loves perching on your shoulder too. I'm quite certain she would made a good house chicken..but my husband won't hear of it...lol

You just need to make sure she is eating and drinking. If you give the chickens treats, pull her aside first and let her have her fill, then let the other chicks eat. Her favorite treat in the world is boiled eggs topped with meal worms. She can't get enough. It's quite cute.

Have fun with your special girl!

My Arlo had spraddled legs & twisty feet, & also an unknown congenital heart defect. I sure hope the anopthalmic chick does well. (anopthalmic= no eyes)

Another Update

Was worried lastnight because the chick already felt lethargic, skinny, and still havnt been able to get him to eat or drink on his own

Today I sat down and and decided that I was GOING to find a way to get him to eat and drink even if it took hours, thank god it only took 45 mins!

He wont use a bowl, so I took a paper plate and dumped chick starter in it (so he had to stand in it all) he sat there for a few mins and just chirped and chirped and chirped for me, I tapped my finger on plate and he ran over to my finger and started eating! (im guessing the tapping is imitating chick momma?) so I will keep food on the bottom of the box for him, on the water, still having trouble teaching him that, he will take sips if i dunk his beak in it, but im worried he isnt getting enough so after a few drinking "lessons" I give him water by dropper to make sure he gets enough, (i do this several times a day) dropper watering is easy though, after a drop on his beak he sticks his beak in the air and opens his mouth and starts drinking from it easily

Hopefully if I can keep him going like this for another week or so he will catch on to what bowls are, though im worried about him feeling lethargic I have NOT given up
